This quote by Jack Nicholson’s character, Melvin Udall, in the movie ‘As Good As It Gets’ neatly sums up the approach of some people in business when it comes to having difficult conversations, or when they are unconfident in their communication skills. They skirt around the issue, trying to rationalise or describe the problem instead of inviting others to think.
